Elizabeth Blumenstock leads and solos with Live Oak Baroque Orchestra, setting the stage for two infamous musical duels in Dresden.  Vivaldi's famous student Johann Georg Pisendel staged a contest that sent his rival, the arrogant and flashy violinist Francesco Maria Veracini flying out of a window!  When the erratic and showy French keyboardist Louis Marchand moved to Dresden, the concertmaster of the court orchestra invited J.S. Bach to town to challenge Marchand to a public duel.  Marchand fled before he could be publicly humiliated!  Hear LOBO perform concertos, sonatas, and solo works by Veracini, Pisendel, Marchand, J.S. Bach, and August Kuhnel, plus ensemble pieces by Johann Hermann Schein and Matthias Weckmann.  LOBO caps off the evening with Antonio Vivaldi's virtuosic and colorful violin concerto 'Per Pisendel.'

Program Highlights:

Johann Hermann Schein ~ Suite no XI in D minor from Banchetto Musicale
Matthias Weckmann ~ Sonata IX
Johann Paul von Westhoff ~ Violin Sonata in D minor, "Imitatione delle campane"
Francesco Maria Veracini ~ Concerto a cinque in A major
Antonio Vivaldi ~ Violin Concerto, "Per Pisendel"
Johann Georg Pisendel ~ Violin Concerto in E minor
