How could we do Deep Dives without revisiting our old friend Claudio Monteverdi? We have explored the composer’s music through his inimitable 1610 Vespers; through is fabulous motets for liturgical use; and through his amazing madrigals for five and more voices In this set, which we anticipate with great delight, we’ll perform Monteverdi’s magnificent and emotional music, drawing upon all these sources to create an indelible picture of the composer and his special gift
Circa 1600 is a chamber choir, focused upon the nexus between the Renaissance and the Baroque. The group’s primary repertoire is drawn from the 16th and 17th centuries, with occasional forays backward to the 15th century and forward up to and including the music of JS Bach. Guiding lights include Josquin Desprez, Claudio Monteverdi, and Heinrich Schütz.
