Ludwig Senfl: A Gifted Imagination March 15 at 8PM & March 16 at 3PM bachgrounder lecture 35 minutes before each concert Green Mountain Consort St. Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church
Ludwig who? The wonderful thing about early music is that one keeps stumbling upon a ‘new favorite composer’. This happened to me about 12 years ago with Senfl. Deep in my heart and soul, he went from zero to 90 almost instantly. A follower of Josquin Deprez, an admirer and friend of Martin Luther, and a student of Heinrich Isaac, the Swiss Senfl developed a style entirely his own – fresh, incredibly lyrical, full of emotional waves and blissful moments. In celebration of the recent publication of a new edition of Senfl’s sacred works, we are delighted to present our first deep dive into his magnificent music. Featured works will include the Cinque salutationes and the Missa Nisi Dominus
Green Mountain Consort was founded as a one-on-a-part ensemble specializing in Renaissance music. This group is featured each season in our Sacred Realms concert set, held in the domed and frescoed church of St. Seraphim Orthodox Church.
