We open our new season by going back—way back!—to Genesis, the first Book of the Old Testament. Covering an enormous span of time, and filled with many iconic stories familiar in sacred and secular cultures alike, the Book of Genesis provided a rich source of texts for composers of the Renaissance and the Baroque periods. The Green Mountain Consort offers for the first time an array of these compositions, presented in the order in which they appear in Genesis. Composers will include, among many others, Josquin Desprez, Ludwig Senfl, Orlande de Lassus, Melchior Vulpius, Sigismondo d’India, and the inimitable Johann Hermann Schein.

Opening Recital: The Red Tent (Anita Diamant)
The Red Tent gives voice to Dinah, a little-known figure from Genesis 34 whose story is only briefly told in the biblical text. In Scripture, Dinah never speaks for herself, and the events surrounding her are narrated through the perspectives of others. This moving retelling imagines Dinah's own voice, offering a rich portrait of her life and the women who shaped her world.
