Performing a cappella in the magnificent acoustics of the Church of St. Seraphim, the Green Mountain Consort kicks off our series with a broad swath of sacred music dating from as far back as the 12th
century. We’ll include an introduction to monophonic chant (and the invention of solfège!), followed by an exploration of the development of polyphony over the 12th and 13th centuries, including some of the pilgrim songs from the repertoire at Montserrat in Spain. We’ll then shift our focus to two figures from the 14th century: the great Guillaume de Machaut, and the less-known but nonetheless spectacular Johannes Ciconia.

Green Mountain Consort is a vocal chamber ensemble dedicated to Renaissance and Early Baroque music. Known for thoughtful, thematic programming, the Consort embraces the intimacy and flexibility of the one-on-a-part format, delivering nuanced performances which highlight the beauty and complexity of early vocal music.
