William Byrd: Angelical and Divine October 19 at 8PM & October 20 at 3PM bachgrounder lecture 35 minutes before each concert Green Mountain Consort St. Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church
We are thrilled to once again open our season in the magical Church of St. Seraphim, an ideal venue for Renaissance polyphony. Our first dive will be into the waters of William Byrd’s sacred music, a deep pool indeed. We will feature Latin-texted works from the two volumes of Cantiones Sacrae (1589 &1591) and the monumental Gradualia (1605 & 1607). A special feature of our presentation will be a Mass for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in which we will feature both motets and movements from Byrd’s three mass settings. We’ll also sing songs and motets in English, including the fabulous and justly famous Sing Joyfully. Come help us celebrate the opening of our season!
Green Mountain Consort was founded as a one-on-a-part ensemble specializing in Renaissance music. This group is featured each season in our Sacred Realms concert set, held in the domed and frescoed church of St. Seraphim Orthodox Church.
