Working in Mantua alongside Monteverdi, Rossi was a Jewish violinist and composer held in high regard in the court (allowing him to compose and perform more freely than other Jewish people at the time). We will explore some of his secular, instrumental, and sacred music, uncovering the typical Italian late Renaissance sound and unique settings of Hebrew text for the Jewish liturgy.
