Heartfelt Love
Bob Worth
Join Bob Worth in an exploration of the chorale ‘Herzlich lieb’ hab’ ich dich, O Herr’, beloved
the world over in its powerful setting as the last movement of Bach’s ‘St. John Passion’.
We’ll both study and sing the earliest known versions of the melody and text from the late
sixteenth century; we’ll explore Dieterich Buxtehude’s amazing three-movement cantata
based upon the chorale; and then we’ll dive into Bach, learning about and singing his settings:
Two cantata final movements;
An ‘independent’ four-part setting;
The organ chorale BWV 1115, from the ‘Neumeister Manuscript’ rediscovered in 1984;
And of course, the unforgettable setting of the third verse, from the ‘Johannespassion’.
Don’t miss this chance to sing incredible music based upon one of the
most inspiring of all chorales!
