Sacred Works by Valentin Silvestrov
host: Steve Osborn
Content Posted on Sunday June 12
Valentin Silvestrov, Ukraine’s most famous living composer, has devoted much of his recent work to choral compositions. We’ll listen to selections recorded in Kyiv’s most sacred space, the Cathedral of the Dormition, which was blown up during World War II and reconsecrated during Ukrainian Independence Day in 2000. The resonance of the cathedral plays a major role in the vocal writing.
