The Brahms Requiem as a Source of Comfort
Bob Worth, Sonoma Bach Music Director
In this time of challenge and hardship, and, for choral people, with our music now identified as a high-risk activity, we are all bereft and looking for solace and comfort where we can find it. And comfort is what the Brahms Requiem is all about. In this talk, originally given to the San Francisco Bach Choir in the wake of the cancellation of its Brahms Requiem performances due to the pandemic, Bob Worth traces the heritage of Trostmusik (music of comfort) which preceded and influenced Brahms, and takes a close look at the means Brahms uses to help us move out of darkness and into light.
