O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden (5th appearance)
from St. Matthew Passion BWV 244
It's a doozy. As I mentioned last week in a follow-up message, I had momentarily confused two chorales in my mind--both from the St. Matthew Passion, both emblematic of that great work. Here is the second of those chorales, 'O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden' (in its fifth appearance in the Passion with the verse 'Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden'). This is the piece known near and far as the Passion Chorale.

As usual, I am including three files: A pdf score with text and translation; a midi file for practicing; and a recording of the piece--this time a live performance from YouTube, directed by Philippe Herreweghe.

In an odd bit of synchronicity, the exact Bach arrangement of 'O Mensch bewein'--last week's chorale--ended up in the Bach Talk on Thursday via a beautiful performance with improvisation by the
Ira Stein Trio. I am attaching it herewith for your listening pleasure.
