Recording Instructions
First, learn your part, and practice singing it with the recording. Once you feel you can do it well, set up a playback system and a recording system. A good choice for your playback system is a computer or perhaps a tablet. You will need to use headphones, not the external speaker of your device. Your recording system can be your smartphone: On an iPhone, use Voice Memos or Garage Band; on an Android phone (if you don’t already have a voice recorder app) download one like Easy Voice Recorder. You may also use a more hi-fi solution if that's within your grasp.
Once you have your part practiced and you have the equipment assembled, get settled in a quiet room (preferably your home chapel or concert hall for acoustics) and make the recording. You will listen to the guide track on headphones while you record yourself singing your part. For this kind of thing, I like to have the headphones on one ear only, so I can hear my voice normally. If you’re like me, you will probably need to do the recording several times till you get it like you want it.
(My problem is usually that I make a mistake near the end, plenty of cursing happens, and I have to go back and start all over again. But you’re probably better than me.)
Once you have the recording on your phone or whatever, name it on this pattern: SONG TITLE-PART-NAME
attach it to an email message to me; and send.
